Preface -- School Wars: Resolving our Conflicts over Religion and Values
This book clarifies the major issues and central players in conflicts over elements of educational reform.
It focuses is on the concerns and criticisms of those conservative Christians who are most vocally, forcefully, and politically involved in these conflicts.
The aim is to clarify the nature of the current public school controversies.
Part 1 -- The players involved in these controversies are described and a historical prospective for understanding how the conflicts arose is given.
Part 2 -- The reforms, literature and curricula that are being contested and, more importantly, why they are being contested is discussed.
Part 3 -- The differing religious and philosophical world views of those involved in the conflict is explored.
Part 4 -- Solutions to the conflicts raised throughout the book are recommended including teaching about religion, values education, parent-teacher cooperation, the development of school policies, and a model for communities to live and work productively amid conflicting beliefs.
