Open Space Activity
During this semester cohort IX was introduced to Open Space Technology. Dr. Cox set the stage explaining what open space technology is and how it works. He gave instructions on what we would be discussing and we were encouraged to participate in the process in any way we desired.
During this process, we arrived at several topics to discuss related to the main topic. We then divided ourselves and dialogued about each specific sub-topic. We took notes on each of the sessions, type and printed them, and came back together to rap up the activity. During this time we discussed our experience regarding open space technology and each of us were supplied with the typed and copied results from each of the sessions.
I had never been exposed to open space technology before and found the experience exciting. I believe that the process truly is an effective means of coming together to produce solutions. The idea of open space technology is based upon the premise that the most productive dialogue occurs in open space settings. This means that people are more productive in settings in which there is no pressures and they are allowed to participate in the sub-topic of their choice. It is my opinion that this process truly does provide for greater dialogue.
